Inflamed skin is more common than you might think. It can be mild redness, itching, tightness, or more severe symptoms like acne, perioral dermatitis, or sensitivity. If you find that your skin often reacts with irritation, redness, or pimples, you may be struggling with an inflammatory process in your skin.

How does inflammation occur in the skin?
Inflammation is the body’s natural response—specifically, the immune system—to irritation, infection, or an imbalance in the skin. It’s a defense mechanism that works to repair damage. However, if inflammation is long-term or recurrent, it can lead to a weakened skin barrier, irritation, premature aging, and other problems.

The most common causes of skin inflammation include:

A disrupted skin barrier (often after aggressive cleansing or excessive exfoliation)

Bacterial overgrowth (e.g. Cutibacterium acnes in acne)

Hormonal fluctuations and stress

UV radiation and air pollution

Poorly chosen or unsuitable cosmetics

Allergic reactions and irritation from certain substances

What to watch out for when caring for sensitive or inflamed skin

For inflamed skin, it is important to focus on gentleness, hydration and restoring balance. What can unnecessarily burden or worsen the skin? Too frequent use of peels (especially AHA and BHA). Aggressive cleansers with a high alcohol content. Combinations of strong active ingredients (e.g. retinol + acids). Perfumes, essential oils and allergens in cosmetics and insufficient hydration or use of overly aggressive drying products.

Which ingredients help to soothe the skin and support its regeneration?

The right skincare can soothe inflammation, reduce irritation and support the restoration of the skin barrier. Focus on anti-inflammatory ingredients such as 1. Niacinamide (vitamin B3) – soothes inflammation, reduces redness and helps maintain a healthy skin barrier. It is contained in the Aqua Splash hydrating essence, which provides deep moisture to the skin. Zinc – known for its healing effects, ideal for problematic or acne-prone skin. Azelaic acid, which helps with acne, rosacea and pigmentation. Centella asiatica (CICA) – a strongly regenerative herb, promotes healing and soothing, you can find it in our Sea Wave toner, which is specifically designed for problematic skin. Panthenol (vitamin B5) – hydrates, regenerates, soothes irritation. Allantoin – accelerates healing, softens and protects the skin. Green tea, licorice and chamomile extract – natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant substances. You can find it, for example, in our Rose Kiss bamboo toner with probiotics and silver, which soothes the skin after cleansing.

SPF skin protection

Don't forget to protect your skin from the sun. This is especially important for problematic, sensitive and inflamed skin, which is aggravated by the sun's rays and can, in addition to worsening the condition, also cause pigmentation and scars. Every day before leaving the house, apply SPF cream to your skin. The ideal product is our BB and CC cream, which contains a mineral SPF filter, which is gentler for sensitive, damaged skin. The cream also unifies the skin and covers imperfections. It creates a protective shield on the skin, which reflects sunlight.

Inflammation as a signal: listen to your skin

Inflammation is not the enemy - it is a signal that something is going on. It can alert you to a bad product, excessive care, stress, or internal imbalance. The key to correction is respect, gentleness and restoring balance. Less is sometimes more. Limit cosmetic care to the bare essentials and seek professional help in case of more serious symptoms.
